Permits for scientific research or educational purposes

Find permits for conducting research for scientific or educational purposes, either in one of Queensland's National Parks, or outside of a National Park.

Harvesting licence

The Nature Conservation Act 1992 allows for the sustainable harvesting of a range of native species, including macropods. However, these species may only be taken during a harvest period declared for the species.

Only buy native wildlife from licensed sellers

Before you buy check the following:

• ask the seller for a copy of their licence
• check the expiry date to make sure it’s still current.
• only purchase native animals from a swap or marketplace website that’s regulated.

If you buy a native animal from an unlicensed seller, the animal you purchase could be seized.
